Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology

It was recognized as a specialty by DCI in 1968 (O.M.) and 1971(O.R.) and then has made tremendous in the field of dentistry. Oral Medicine Diagnosis & Radiology is the specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and medical management of diseases of the Head and Neck. It serves as a bridge that links dentistry and medicine aiding in the early diagnosis of several systemic diseases having oral manifestations. It is a unique field of dentistry that combines both Oral Medicine and Craniofacial Radiology.

Oral and maxillofacial radiology is a branch of dentistry that deals with the study of radiation. The intra-oral radiology section has modern RVG-compatible IOPA radiography machines where different types of conventional & Digital intraoral radiographs like Peri-apical (IOPA) views, Bitewing views, Occlusal views, Full mouth surveys are done and interpreted by students under the guidance of faculty members. The extra Oral Radiology section has advanced Orthopantomograph and Cephalometric machines.

Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a relatively new but is one of the fastest growing specialties in dental sciences. The program offered by the department covers the gamut of surgical interventions from standard tooth removals to the treatment of deformities, abnormalities, trauma and cancer. This often includes surgical reconstruction, correction and placement of implants. Students are also taught to treat dental and facial pain and trauma, and nerve disorder.

Department of Periodontics and Oral Implantology

The Department of Periodontics offers a myriad of diagnosis and treatment options for various types of gum diseases. The treatment ranges from basic oral prophylaxis (scaling and polishing) to advanced complex surgical procedures. Various procedures like crown lengthening, vestibular extension, root coverage, periodontal flap surgeries, gingivectomy are done using LASER technology and also advanced surgeries like Bone grafting, Guided tissue regeneration and Dental Implants are routinely carried out.

Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics

Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics is the branch of dentistry which deals with treatment of carious, malformed or fractured teeth as well as discoloured or aesthetic correction and also deals with treatment of pulpal and periapical diseases and Dental Pain Management. It aims at increasing the life span of the teeth. Towards this end, department offers root canal treatment, endodontic surgeries, metallic, non-metallic and aesthetic restorations. Well-maintained functional phantom lab for the students to practice their clinical skills.

Department of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics

The Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics deals with the diagnosis and treatment of the irregular position, shape or size of teeth as well as the irregular relationship of the jaws. Often referred to as “Smile Architects”. This field of dentistry focuses on bite corrections, alignment of teeth as well as maintenance of function, stability and aesthetics of dentition. Treatment takes the form of pre- adjusted edgewise appliance, Lingual appliance, ceramic braces, myofunctional appliances, clear alingners, surgical orthodontics.

Department of Paedodontics & Preventive Dentistry

The field of preventive dentistry as the name suggests, is primarily involved with the prevention, diagnosis, and management of oral health problems in children, adolescents, and individuals with special health care needs. When treating children or individuals with special health care needs, it is crucial to ensure that everything — right from the environment to the treatment plan — is designed keeping the care and comfort of the patient in mind. Advancements such as Conscious sedation have been incorporated in the department for patient’s anxiety and pain management.

Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge

Department of prosthodontics “God create but we recreate”.The replacement of missing teeth and associated structures due to congenital reasons or due to disease, surgery, aging or accident is the responsibility of the department of prosthodontics through dental prosthesis, not only are the teeth replaced, but also form and function of surrounding areas such as lips and cheeks is restored. A Prosthodontist is often referred to as the “Architect of the mouth”. Restoration of oral function is done through prostheses and restorations (i.e., complete dentures, crowns, implant retained/supported restorations). The Department offers a variety of treatments to the patients via removable or fixed prosthesis using interdisciplinary treatment planning. A complete dental & esthetic rehabilitation for occlusal disturbances, congenital or acquired defects is provided. Implants, Full dentures, removable partial dentures, crowns, veneers, laminates, bridges, splints/stents and obturators are a few of the commonly rendered services.

Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology

The Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology deals with the teaching of Dental Anatomy, Oral Histology and Oral Pathology to the students and deals with the Investigations and diagnosis of diseases. The department efficiently provides cytopathological and histopathological reports of oral structures for a variety of lesions such as premalignant and malignant lesions, soft tissue tumours, odontogenic cysts and tumours. The modern histopathological and microbiological lab is equipped with semi automatic microtome, tissue processor. A pathology museum compiles over 2000 histopathology slides.

Department of Public Health Dentistry

The Department of Public Health Dentistry is dedicated to the promotion of oral health, prevention of oral diseases, and improvement of the quality of life of individuals and communities . As a vital link between dentistry and public health, the department focuses on understanding the oral health needs of diverse populations and developing effective strategies to address them through preventive and community-based approaches.

The department is actively involved in undergraduate education, providing students with comprehensive training in epidemiology, biostatistics, health promotion, preventive dentistry, research methodology, and community oral health programs. Regular dental health education programs, oral health screening and treatment camps, school dental health activites, tobacco cessation counselling and preventive care services are conducted to promote oral health awareness and improve access to dental care among the populations. These activities provide students with valuable opportunities to engage directly with communities and gain practical experience in public health practice.

Through excellence in teaching, research, patient care, and community service, the Department of Public Health Dentistry strives to develop competent, socially responsible dental professionals who are committed to improving oral health and overall well-being at local, national, and global levels.

Tobacco Cessation clinic as a part of the Oral medicine and radiology department which goes with the motto “ Prevention is better than cure”, enlightens the practice of tobacco awareness and counseling to the students by providing personalized counseling sessions for patients addicted to the habit of tobacco use.
